Bangladesh in the age of e-SIM.
Even with the announcement of 7 April 2022, Grameenphone, the country's leading mobile operator, could not start selling e-SIM. In this regard, they are facing obstacles from Bangladesh Board of Revenue and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority BTRC. This time e-SIM sales have got the green signal from the companies. Therefore, Grameenphone has started selling e-SIM in the country from Monday as the first operator.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has said that mobile phone operators will be able to sell e-SIMs, but the tax will have to be calculated as before. The decision was taken at the request of the operators, said Zakia Sultana, a member of the NBR (VAT policy).

He said VAT has been fixed at Tk 200 for e-SIM just like ordinary SIM. We have informed them that mobile operators will be able to sell e-SIM by paying this.

The full form of e-SIM is the Embedded Subscriber Identity Module. Unlike conventional plastic SIM cards, these SIMs are not easy to open and change. The SIM is directly connected to the motherboard of the mobile phone. E-SIM only works on pre-installed devices.
