French brand Renault showed a 'hydrogen powered' car

The hydrogen fuel cell-powered Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) has been unveiled by French carmaker Renault.

Reuters described Thursday's unveiling of the prototype as an attempt to catch rivals in the race to build eco-friendly cars.

The manufacturer has said that this car called 'Scenic Vision' will not be available commercially before 2030-32. However, a full electric version will hit the market in 2024.

Like the electric car, the car also has an electric motor, but the motor is powered by electricity from a hydrogen cell, which will increase the battery's capacity.

Renault says the car will run up to 600 kilometers on a single charge with a 16-kilowatt battery. And by reducing the weight of the battery by half, the total carbon pollution can be reduced by three quarters.

Renault announced Scenic Vision shortly after plans were made to separate the electric car segment from the production of conventional oil-powered cars.

At the beginning of the last decade, Renault fell behind in the electric car race with Nissan and Mitsubishi of Japan. And, according to Reuters, its rhetoric is due to Tesla and Volkswagen.

Asian manufacturers Toyota and Hyundai have already launched hydrogen cell powered cars. And, BMW is moving towards bringing a hydrogen-powered IX5 this year in the form of a small batch series.
